Obituary of Eugene Paul Mays

Eugene Paul "Gene" Mays, 93, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Gene was the loving husband for 72 years of Helen Viar Mays. He was preceded in death by his son, Eugene Wayne Mays, Sr.; his brother James Mays and his sister Dorothy Perrow. Gene is survived by a daughter-in-law, Gail C. Mays of Forest, VA; one grandson Eugene W. Mays, Jr. and his wife Meghan of Goode, VA; one granddaughter, Jennifer Mitchell and her husband Kevin, of Forest, VA and four great-grandchildren; Alexis and Collin Mays, Landon and Parker Mitchell. Gene was very active, with softball, golf and bowling and loved being outside. He cherished the years he spent camping and traveling with his wife. He also loved spending time with his buddies as well as times he spent bowling with his brother. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory Waterlick Chapel (434) 237-2722. Relatives and friends are welcome for a time of visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
