Obituary of Nellie Burford Smith

Nellie Nadine Burford Smith Nellie Nadine Burford Smith, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Lewis Smith, Sr. Born May 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William Burford and Daisey Nadine Eades, of Lynchburg. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Darlene Smith. Nellie was an active member of the former Bethesda Presbyterian Church where she served as elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a devoted Christian woman who touched many lives. Survivors include a son, Herman Lewis "Scotty" Smith, Jr. and wife Anne, of Lynchburg; two daughters, Linette Joy Smith and Marlene S. Moss and husband Audie G., of Lynchburg; two brothers, Wallace Burford and wife Elizabeth and Floyd Burford and wife Sylvia, of Lynchburg; two sisters, Mary B. Duty of Charlottesville and Frances B. Logwood of Roanoke; one sister-in-law Wyllis Burford, and numerous nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren, Kristopher Shane Smith and wife Amanda, Rory Cameron Smith, Anne Blakelyn Tindall and husband Scott, Amy Nadine Allgood, Damous Rave Moss, Barry Wayne Brooks and wife Susan, Robbie M. Allgood; two great grandchildren, Leah Nadine Allgood and Tyler Connelly; three step grandchildren, Stephen G. Moss, Christa L. King and husband Rodney, Amanda and Dustin Brooks; three step great grandchildren, Brandon King, Derek Moss, and Jared Moss. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Burford and Louis Burford; one sister, Merle Foreman. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2007, at Duiguid Waterlick Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Bryant and the Rev. Nancy White officiating. Interment will follow at the Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2007, at the funeral home and at other times, at the home of Marlene Moss, 2421 High Street, Lynchburg, (434) 528-3949.
