Obituary of Martha Austin Layne

Martha Irene Austin Layne, 68, of Forest, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008 at her home. Born in Bedford County on May 4, 1939 she was a daughter of the late James William Austin and Inez Arthur Austin. Mrs. Layne was employed in the jewelry department at Belk Department Store, she was a member of Rustburg Baptist Church and also attended Bethany United Methodist Church. Martha is survived by a son, Leonard "Jack" Jackson Layne, II and his wife, Gretel of Reston, Va. A daughter, Deborah L. Bryant and her husband, Lewis of Lynchburg. A granddaughter, Jenna Lynn Bryant. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Wyatt Austin.A celebration of Martha's life will be held 1:00 PM today, March 15, 2008 at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel with the Rev. Tom Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216. Diuguid Funeral Service and Crematory, Wiggington Chapel, 385-8900 is assisting the family.
