Obituary of Edwin Earl Tackett
Edwin Earl Tackett of Lynchburg, Virginia went to be with his Lord on May 31, 2023, after several years of declining health. Born in Bloomingrose, West Virginia, on January 4, 1937, he was the son of Clifford and Erna Tackett. His passing comes just six months after that of his wife of 63 years, Rebecca (Becky) Cunningham Tackett.
Ed served his country in the U.S. Army before moving to Lynchburg where he worked at GE until his retirement. He was a member of Union Christian Church, Madison Heights, the Masonic Lodge and American Legion.
Ed had many talents and a giving nature. After he retired from GE his hobby of refinishing and upholstering furniture became a second career building furniture for clients and friends. He also helped build houses for Habitat for Humanity, enjoyed working with stained glass and was a wonderful cook and candymaker.
Ed will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great friend. He is survived by one son Phillip Duane and his wife Christine, of Omaha, Nebraska, three grandchildren, Alyssa, MacKenzie and Connor, and Goddaughter Amy Richmond. In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Ann Smith.
Officiating the service will be pastor and friend Rev. Jim Freeman. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the mausoleum chapel of Fort Hill Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Union Christian Church, 160 Parsonage Road, Madison Heights, VA, 24572. Diuguid Waterlick Chapel will be serving the family.
