Obituary of Harold Donald McVey

Harold Donald “Don” McVey, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday evening, April 8, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born on March 17, 1935 in Spencer, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Harry and Hazel McVey.

Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet; two daughters: Joyce McVey and Missy Campbell and husband WT; grandchildren Kaley Dawson and husband Johnny, Sydney Phelps and husband Stefan and Thell Campbell; and great grandchildren Grey Dawson, Callan and Finley Phelps.

He graduated from Fairmont State College with a teaching degree and went on to complete his Masters in Industrial Arts at West Virginia University. He started his career as a high school teacher in New Castle, Delaware and after completing his Master’s moved to Lynchburg for a job at Lynchburg Foundry. He retired from Greif Corporation in Amherst managing Training, Safety and Security.

Don loved to fish, play golf, and in his early years, fly small planes. He also enjoyed woodworking and singing Bass in the choir at church.

A celebration of life is to be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Diuguid Funeral Home at 21914 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in Virginia Memorial Park.
