Clois Justine Bradley Weaver

Clois Justine Bradley (CJ) Weaver, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on February 12, 2023, at the age of 91 at Westminster Canterbury.

The daughter of the late Frederick William Bradley and Irene Snead Bradley of Vernon Hill, Virginia. CJ was born on April 3, 1931, in Nathalie, Virginia. At age 10, her family moved to Vernon Hill. She would later graduate from Wilson Memorial High School and attend Averett College in Danville, Virginia. Following college she worked in Richmond, Virginia, where she met her future husband, Earl Marshall Weaver. They were married in Reynolds, Georgia, on September 2, 1951.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

The youngest of five children, CJ was reared in the Baptist Church. She learned to play piano as a young girl and began playing at her church services and funerals beginning at age 13. Later in life, CJ could be found playing the piano on the Bridge at Westminster Canterbury to the delight of many friends and acquaintances.

A loving mother to her four children, CJ is survived by her children: Dorlisa Weaver Lee (Mike) of Summerville, S.C., Mary Ruffin Weaver Childs of Columbia, S. C., Earl Marshall Weaver, Jr. (Betsy) of Lynchburg, VA, and William Bradley Weaver of Lynchburg, VA. C.J is also survived by 10 grandchildren who knew her as “Mom Mom:” Michael Wayne Lee, Jr., of Denver, CO; Patrick Holt Lee of Washington, DC; Wesley Hamilton Lee of Charleston, SC; Jenny-Gray Ruffin Childs Tatum (Johnny) of Beaufort, SC; Annie Halford Childs King (Clayton) of Columbia, SC; Earl Marshall Weaver, III, of Smyrna, GA; Courtney Laird Weaver of Columbia, SC; Taylor McCaskill Weaver, Winston Bradley Weaver and Peyton Marshall Weaver, all of Lynchburg, VA; and four great grandchildren: May Weaver Tatum and John Craig Tatum of Beaufort, SC; Annie Paige King and William Ruffin King of Columbia, SC. She will be missed by her beloved cat, Poppy.

CJ was a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg. John 11:25-26 reads: “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?’”

Following a private graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 1:00 pm followed by a reception.

Her family would like to extend special thanks to the extraordinary care and love of the 6th floor skilled nursing staff at Hearthside and hospice department of Westminster Canterbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church or to Peaks View Animal Hospital.
