Obituary of Donald Burton Powell

Donald Burton (Burt) Powell of Columbus, IN, age 91, departed this life peacefully at his daughter’s home in Forest VA and stepped foot on heavens shore to meet his Savior; Jesus Christ on February 23, 2019.

He was born on October 25, 1927 in St. Helens, OR to Paul J. and LuLu (Thayer) Powell. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years; Elaine D. Powell of Columbus, IN and brother Richard Powell of Sherwood, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife of 33 years; Norma M. Powell of Portland, OR, brothers Vern Powell of Longview, WA, Jack Powell of Keene, OR, sisters Lavonne Ade of Beaverton, OR, Sally Abbott of Tillamook, OR, Aldeen Wheeler of St. Helens, OR and grandsons, David Mark Thayer and Andrew Van Dorn Jr. of St. Helens, OR.

 He is survived by three children; Linda (Andrew) Van Dorn of Tigard, OR, Daniel Powell of Aurora, OR, Sharon (Mark) Thayer of Forest, VA; eleven grandchildren: Nikki (Craig), Justin (Trisha), Eric, Colt, Beau, Bethany (James), Sarah, Elisa, Kellie, Cassie, thirteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Duiguid Waterlick Chapel, Friday, March 1 from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at Duiguid’s on Saturday March 2 at 11 AM. Pastor Jerry Day Sr. of Columbus IN will be officiating. Burt will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery at 722 Leesville Road, Lynchburg, VA following the memorial service.
