Obituary of Richard Wayne Miller

Richard “Dick” Miller, 78 of Lynchburg passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday January 27. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Creger Miller.

Dick was born March 19, 1940 in Toledo, OH. He was the son of Karl H. and Caroline F. Miller and step-mother Mary M. Miller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Dane A. Miller of Lynchburg.

He is survived by his son Drew Miller of Roanoke, VA; step-brothers William St. Clair of Gainesville, GA and Richard St. Clair and wife Kackie of Northfield, MA; his sister-in-law Debbie C. Vlahos and husband Gus of Dublin, VA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

After his mother passed away at a young age, he and his father transferred to Charlottesville, VA where his father met Mary and her sons, William and Richard. Dick graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, VA and later from Lynchburg College. He remained in Lynchburg until he and the family moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland for several years before returning to Lynchburg.

Dick began his career in the banking industry and then finished his career working in the management and sales fields.

Dick loved the outdoors and passed his love of spending time outdoors on to his sons, family and friends. He was very fond of the stories of past outings and was always looking forward to future outings. He was an active member of Ducks Unlimited and other organizations for many years and helped to foster the sport of Lacrosse in the area. Dick was a kind and giving person and will be remembered and missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday January 30, 2019, at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
