Obituary of Robert Jones

Robert Sears Jones, Sr, 84, of Miami, FL, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 in the Bruce W. Carter Miami VA Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Erma Dawn Jones, of Baltimore, MD, for 49 years.

Born in Baltimore, MD, April 9, 1934, he was the son of the late Wilmer Wyatt and Lela Janette Sears Jones. He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and later earned his bachelor and masters degrees from University of Maryland and Towson State University. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from Westinghouse, where he served as a Project Administrator.

Bob loved to travel internationally and made friends throughout the world. He was an artist at heart and enjoyed drawing, painting, and creating sculptures. He had an affinity for the performing arts as well, and was active as a set designer in local Baltimore theaters for many years. Swimming in the warm ocean water and relaxing on the beaches of Miami was another favorite pastime for Bob. 

In addition to his wife, Erma, he is survived by one daughter, Laura V. Beck and her husband, Ray, of Lynchburg; six grandchildren: Kaytlin Geobel and her husband John, Megan Jones, Emily Pawlas, Nathan Pawlas, Jason Jones, and Adam Jones; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Sears Jones, Jr.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday, September 15, 2018, 3:00-4:00 PM, at the Diuguid Wiggington Road Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held directly after at 4:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dan G. Mason officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in Parkville, MD.
