Obituary of James Noel Barnard

James Noel Barnard, Sr., 91, of Bedford County, VA passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Marian Payne Barnard and the late Mildred Ware Barnard. Born April 18, 1921 in Iredell County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Hugh Barnard and Mamie Windsor Barnard. He was raised in Yadkin County, North Carolina, and relocated to the Lynchburg area in 1941. He attended Iredell County schools and Central Virginia Community College. Mr. Barnard was a long time member of the Elks, Moose and Masonic organizations. He spent most of his career as an independent general contractor. He was a member of Inglewood Baptist Church. He is survived by his son, James Noel Barnard, Jr., and his wife Jo-Anne, of Alexandria, VA. ;one grandchild, Karen Christine Elarde (Joe); 4 great grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Wolfe and her husband,Chris, Sarah Elizabeth Kriston, Justin Michael Elarde, Ryan James Elarde; 2 great-great grandchildren, Lucas Anderson Wolfe and Jeffrey Michael Wolfe; step daughter Phyllis Dale Rickwood and her husband, Clive; stepson Thomas L Payne and his wife Linda; step grandson John Travis Maddox and step great grandson Jonathan Travis Maddox. He was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas Allen Barnard of Hickory, NC and Bennie Winsor Barnard of Houstonville, NC. He is survived by many other close family members and friends. The family will receive visitors at Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and at the home during other times. A celebration of Johnny?s life and faith will be held at Inglewood Baptist Church, 4830 Old Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, VA at 11: 00 a.m. on Friday , November 9, 2012. A luncheon will follow the services at the church. Interment will be after the luncheon, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Barnard's name to the Inglewood Baptist Church Building Fund, 4830 Old Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
