Obituary of Ed Griffin

Rev. James “Ed” Griffin, 87, formerly of Lynchburg, died peacefully in his sleep, joining his ancestors on Friday, July 21, 2023, in Charlottesville, VA.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jeanette and his brother Albert. Ed is survived by his son, Tim and daughter-in-law Sterling Griffin and their son, Elias Wolf Griffin; and many friends.

Ed graduated from high school in South Norfolk, VA and then attended Bluefield College and Southeastern Theological Seminary obtaining a Master of Divinity Degree. He entered the Ministry at his first church in Orange, VA. Ed proudly served the Lord over the years in Sussex, Franklin, Appomattox, and Halifax counties.

Ed's commitment to his ministry went far beyond financial gains, and his genuine love for people shone through in every aspect of his life. He saw his role as a minister not as a means to acquire wealth, but as an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of those he served. Countless individuals can attest to his boundless compassion, empathy, and love. This is expressed though Philippians 4:11-13

Following retirement, he and Jeanette made their church home at Inglewood Baptist Church and he thrived in his love of food, sports, and family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Inglewood Baptist Church, 4830 Old Boonsboro Rd, Lynchburg, VA.
