Obituary of Nell Thomas Whitten

Nell Thomas Whitten of Franklin, TN and formerly of Lynchburg, VA, passed away May 29, 2017. She was born July 25, 1924, the daughter of the late Ross and Lizzie Thomas. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Whitten. She is survived by two children William Ellis of Lynchburg and Jean Mason and her husband, Don, of Brentwood, TN; three grandchildren, Jessica Mason Younger and her husband, Kevin, of Fort Collins, CO; Lynn E. Blomquist and her husband, Shanon, of Lynchburg, and Lee Mason, II of Franklin, TN; and three great grandchildren, Austin J. Younger, Joshua Whitten Younger, and Trevor Lee Younger of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by one sister, Opal Gott of Kingsport, TN and two brothers, Kenneth Thomas of Kingsport, TN and Edward Thomas of Tazewell, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William Thomas of Dryden, VA. She was a long time member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church and was active in the Lynchburg chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. For 20 years she was executive secretary to the Chief of Police for the Lynchburg Police Department Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Friday, June 23 at Diuguid Funeral Home, Waterlick Chapel, Timberlake Road. A graveside service will immediately follow at 2:00 P.M. at Fort Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the charity of your choice.
