Obituary of Cecil Cress

Cecil Kenneth Cress, 85, of Forest died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Campbell County on December 20, 1926 he was a son of the late Carl D. Cress and Laura Smith Cress and was the husband of Winifred ?Winnie? Pryor Cress for 64 years. Mr. Cress was a graduate of Brookville High School and Lynchburg College. He served his country in the U.S. Army during both W.W. II and Korea having attained the rank of 1st. Lieutenant. He was the owner of the C.K. Cress Insurance Agency. He was an active member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years and also sang in the church choir. He was also a member of Chartered Life Underwriters and was on the Estate Planning Commission. In addition to his wife, Winnie, he is survived by a daughter, Caryl C. Ramsey and her husband, Joseph E. Ramsey, III of Forest. A son, C. Kenneth Cress, Jr. and his wife, Janet Ann of Boone, NC. Seven grandchildren, Heather N. Ramsey of Alexandria, Savannah L. Ramsey of Forest, Holden T. Ramsey of Forest, Matthew C. Sayre of Richmond, Jason A. Sayre and his wife, Ashley R. of Commerce City, CO. Adam M. Sayre of Bethesda, MD and Melanie C. Sayre of Richmond. A brother, George B. Cress and his wife, Nancy of Lynchburg. A sister, Gwendolyn Cress Tibbs and her husband, Jim of Covington, KY. A son-in-law, Randall L. Sayre. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Cress Sayre and by a brother, Carl D. Cress, Jr. and his wife, Jacquelin. A Celebration of Mr. Cress?s Life and Faith will be held 2:00 PM Monday, November 26, 2012 at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bart Edwards and the Rev. Luke Farwell officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will take place at the church following the interment. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the church.
