Obituary of Sterling Spencer

Sterling Wandell Spencer, 92, of Bedford passed away Monday, November 26, 2012 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Lexington, Va. on February 24, 1920 he was a son of the late John Kilpen Spencer, Jr. and Letticia Womeldorf Spencer and was the husband for 51 years to the late Jean Harris Spencer. Mr. Spencer served his country during WW II in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Va. and was the owner of the J.K. Spencer Construction Company. He is survived by two daughters, Karan S. Johnson and her husband, Scott of Huddleston and Brenda Jean Spencer of Bedford. Three brothers, The Rev. Dr. James B. Spencer, Maxwell C. Spencer and Thomas C. Spencer. Four sisters, Weisy Roberts, Nancy Leach and her husband, Don, Alyce Harrison and her husband, Lionel and Martha Spencer. A number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his precious grand dogs, Boots and Skeeter. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, June Cook and Wanda Brown and two brothers, John Kilpen Spencer, III and Joseph W. Spencer. A Celebration of Sterling?s Life will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 30, 2012 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Ty Harrison officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.
