Obituary of Robert Martin

Robert Barrett Martin, Sr., 91 of Lynchburg passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Heritage Green. Born in Lynchburg on September 23, 1921 he was a son of the late Ivan Hill Martin and Lucille Barrett Martin and was the husband of Elizabeth M. Martin for 64 years. Mr. Martin served his country during W.W. II in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was retired from Equifax as an insurance investigator. Mr. Martin had a deep love of the outdoors especially the mountains where he was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed gardening, growing fresh vegetables for his friends and family. In his younger years he was an excellent tennis play in both High School and Lynchburg College. He had a deep love for both his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, he is survived by two sons, Robert B. Martin, Jr. and his wife, Ginger and Richard K. Martin and his wife, Pam all of Lynchburg. A daughter, Robin Martin of Lynchburg. Three grandchildren, Scott Farrar and his wife, Sarah of Va. Beach. Whitney Johnson and her husband, Greg of Jacksonville, NC. And Tori Huffman of Lynchburg. Two nephews, James W. Martin and Bob Barrett Martin both of Atlanta. He is also survived by a good friend, Martha S. Laverty of Lynchburg. A Celebration of Robert?s Life will be held 12 Noon on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home of Rick and Pam, 1244 Ivy Ridge Ln, Lynchburg. Interment will be private. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, 1022 Commerce St., Lynchburg, VA. 24504.
