Obituary of Valerie Cook

VALERIE ANNETTE COOK MAY Valerie Annette Cook May, 54, of Lynchburg went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 25, 2013 with her family by her side. Born in Richmond on December 27, 1958 she was a daughter of Frankie Ella Howard Brunot of New Bern, NC and the late Edward Anthony Cook . She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Charles Brunot. She was the wife of Michael George May. Valerie was a member of Tree of Life Ministries, CASA, Emergency Foster Care for Campbell County Social Services. She taught Women?s Bible studies at Tree of Life and worked with the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Women?s Ministries. Valerie served her country in the U.S. Army, however, she considered her biggest accomplishment in her life to be the successful raising of her six children and her love for her family. In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by three sons, Michael May and wife, Abigail Waters May, Cody May and wife, Lindsey Martin May and Christopher May all of Lynchburg; three daughters, Tara Torrence and husband, Wyatt, of Appomattox, Ashley May of Los Angeles and Hope May of Lynchburg; two step-daughters, Airynee May of Boyce, VA; and Morgan Walker and husband, Donnie, of Waterford, VA; two grandchildren, Waylon Torrence and Michael May; two step-grandchildren, Barrie Walker and Violet Walker; a sister, Pam Maloney and husband, Terry of Villa Vista, CA; a brother, Michael Brunot of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by her parents-in-law, George Thomas May and Elizabeth Rooney May both of Locust Grove, VA and many members of the extended family. A Celebration of Valerie?s Life and Faith will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 6:30 PM at Tree of Life Ministry, Greenview Dr., with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. The family will receive friends during a reception at the church following the service.
