Obituary of Ellen Lewis

Early in the morning on February 20, 2013, Ellen Lewis was greeted with open arms by her Heavenly Father. The love of her life, Ted, was there as well with a cup of warm coffee and a ham biscuit. His wait of just about three years was over. His beloved ?Minnie? has now joined him in everlasting eternity. Ellen?s parents, James Robin Monroe and Elizabeth Jennings Monroe were next in line to welcome her. Her eight siblings were there to thank her for being there for each of them as they passed from their lives on earth. Ellen had completed her mission to be the last to arrive so that she could remain on earth to send them on their journey. The Monroe brothers and sisters, Ray, Edward, Franklin (Curly), Bailey, WD, Peggy, Martha and Beth were so happy to have their baby sister join them. Left here on earth to celebrate and honor the world?s greatest Mom, Mother-in-Law and Grandma is John Lewis, Robin Lewis Murray, Rick Murray, Addison and Adam Kleiner, and Landis McMann. Her best friend, second daughter and side-kick Betty Toler will miss her everyday and think of Aunt Ellie fondly as Betty is now able to pass by a Walmart without stopping. Ellen?s next door neighbor, Jane Leggett will be missing Ellen?s iced tea and daily visits. Ellen touched so many lives in her short 86 years. Her accomplishments are many. 40+ years in banking from Peoples, to First and Merchants, to Bank of America, her 20+ years in volunteering at Virginia Baptist Hospital, her Elmwood Avenue family where she excelled in being a second Grandma, a dependable and loving neighbor never hesitating to give advice and prepare a meal for sick friend, a new baby, or just because she felt like it. Eddie, Rachel, Chris, Brandon, Betty and Grayson set up the card table, and watch out - John has sent the rule book with her - she will be watching. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, 3300 Rivermont Ave.,Lynchburg, VA 24503 or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Ellen?s life and faith will be held Saturday, February 23, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel with the Rev. Dan G. Mason officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 P.M. prior to the service.Interment will be in the Wycliffe Cemetery in Brookneal at 4:00 P.M.
