Obituary of Jean Hall Bass

Jean Hall Bass, 81, passed away Monday, July 1 at Maryview Nursing Center in Suffolk, VA. Mrs. Bass was born in Lynchburg, VA, on June 5, 1932, and made the Lynchburg area her home until moving to the Chesapeake, VA area in 2006. She was a daughter of the late Mann McGill Hall and Alma Coleman Hall, and was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Edward Bass. Mrs. Bass was active in the National Society of DAR and Daughters of American Colonialists. She owned Bass Antiques and Interiors, and was instrumental in organizing Lynchburg's antique shows in the 1960's and 70's. She was also a real estate agent, practicing in Lynchburg and Charlottesville. After her husband's retirement, she enjoyed traveling the country with him on antique buying trips and attending various antique shows. She was a devoted Christian, and was a past member of Beulah Baptist Church and Thomas Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Bass is survived by four children, Wayne Bass and his wife, Christine, of Sarasota, FL, Ellen Bass Brady and her husband Chuck, of Chesapeake, VA, Travis Bass of Roswell, GA, and Julia Bass Tatoian and her husband Harry, of Hingham, MA; also 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The family will graciously receive visitors at 11 AM Saturday, July 6, at North Bedford Baptist Church, 4310 Coffee Road, Forest, VA, with the funeral service following at 12 noon. Pastor Chad Brady, Mrs. Bass's grandson, will officiate. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
