Obituary of Elizabeth Custis Campbell

Elizabeth Custis Campbell Elizabeth Custis Campbell, 93, of Lynchburg, passed on July 10, 2013 after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Richard Terrell Campbell. She was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church and was a retired school teacher with Amherst County schools. Born January 7, 1920, in Craddockville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Harry Edward and Elizabeth Nottingham Custis. In addition to her husband of 56 years and parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by sisters Pamela Brockwell and Irma Dix. She is survived by two sons, Edward Terrell Campbell of Littleton, CO, and Daniel Parke Campbell and his wife Lynn of Manassas, VA. Elizabeth is also survived by a sister, Annette Widgeon, of Painter, VA; sisters-in-law Dorothy Campbell, Barbara Matthews, and Ann Campbell of Lynchburg and a number of nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was a graduate of James Madison University in 1941. She taught third grade at Elon Elementry for 15 years and worked with children in Sunday school. She was an honorary member of the Seven Hills Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at West Lynchburg Baptist Church by the Rev. James D. Newman followed by a graveside service at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel today from 7-8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to West Lynchburg Baptist Church, 3031 Memorial Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
