Obituary of Lucille Jennings Ferrell

Greenville, SC - Lucille Jennings Ferrell, 90, formerly of Lynchburg, VA passed away December 2, 2013 at The Haven in Greenville, SC. She was predeceased by her husband William Garland Ferrell, parents Laura Dexter Cassada and William Bryan Jennings, as well as three sisters, Betsy Overstreet, Vivian Barksdale, and Mildred Almond, and a brother William B. (Buddy) Jennings, Jr. Born in Lynchburg in 1923, she graduated from Brookville High School and Phillips Business College. She began her career at Craddock Terry Shoe Company and following her husband's death in 1968, she worked at Lynchburg College, retiring after 20 years of service. She received Lynchburg College's Honorary Alumna Award in 1990 and was a member of the Fairview Rebekah Lodge #52. She was a lifetime member of Fairview Christian Church and served in various capacities that included teaching Sunday School for nearly 70 years and being the first woman elected President of the Congregation. Besides the church, her other passion was serving as a volunteer at the Virginia Baptist Hospital which she did at the information desk for 24 years and retired with over 4,300 hours of service. She is survived by her son William G. (Bill) Ferrell, Jr. and his wife Susan Fields Ferrell of Greenville, SC, and one grandson W. Garland Ferrell, III of Greenville, who was the light of her life. The funeral will be held 2:30 PM on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Fairview Christian Church followed by graveside service at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM at the church. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Haven for their extraordinary kindness and support.
