Obituary of Ruth D. Jones

Ruth "Penny" Dymes Jones, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, December 6th, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John William Jones. She is survived by her sister Pat Lynch of Florida and brother Augustus Dymes of New York, her children Carter Jones of Hampton, David Jones of Lynchburg and Patricia Jones of Richmond and grandchildren Pendleton Jones and Celeste Jones of Lynchburg. Her brother Robert Dymes died during childhood. Penny was born in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, graduated from Cornell University where she met John William, was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she was a former president of the ECW (Episcopal Church Woman), and was a retired Executive Director and board member of The ARC of Central Virginia. Penny and John William enjoyed travel with a special love for the Outerbanks of NC and relaxing at their Timberlake cottage. She had many happy times with good friends swapping love story books, creating a little mischief and attending water aerobics classes at Oakwood Club. She loved caring for her family and their many holiday gatherings. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Penny's name to St. John's Church 200 Boston Ave. Lynchburg, VA 24503 or to The ARC of Central Virginia, 1508 Bedford Ave, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
