Obituary of Doris Albrittain Ballagh

Doris Antoinette Albrittain Ballagh Doris Antoinette Albrittain Ballagh, 84, of Evington, VA passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014. Mrs. Ballagh was born on April 13, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Henry Bettinson Albrittain and Leona Clara Steiner Albrittain . Growing up in the farming community in La Plata, Maryland, she developed a love of country living and a special love of horses. Mrs. Ballagh graduated from Sacred Heart High School in La Plata MD. She worked for National Geographic in Washington, DC and retired from General Electric Company in Lynchburg. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lynchburg. Mrs. Ballagh Married Hamilton Craig Ballagh on April 3, 1948 and lived in Lynchburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband and son, Michael. Mrs. Ballagh is survived by sons Craig of Lynchburg, John and his wife, Susan, of Leesburg, VA, And James and his wife, Barbara, of Bowie, MD. As well as daughters Karen Downey of Stephens City, VA, and Mary Jean Hockman and her husband, Bob, of Diamond, MO as well as ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Shirley Garner of La Plata, MD, Sr. Jeanne Albrittain of Scranton, PA, Julia Anne Jones of Chicago, IL, Mary Lee Jones of La Plata, MD, Joan Marie Richardson of La Plata, MD and brother, Henry B. Albrittain, of La Plata, MD. A funeral Mass of Resurrection officiated by Reverend James Gallagher will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 710 Clay Street, Lynchburg, VA. The family will receive friends in the Church Commons from noon until 1:00 PM. A reception will be held in the Commons following the Mass. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Jude Children's Hospital, or a charity of choice. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory, Wiggington Road Chapel, (385-8900) is assisting the family.
