Obituary of Rebecca Reynolds Power
Rebecca Jacqueline Reynolds Power, "Jackie", quietly
passed away at home on Saturday, July 26th. Born, May 29, 1928, in Norfolk VA,
while living on Smith Island, the once inhabited barrier island at the mouth of
the Chesapeake Bay.
Her parents were the late Rebecca Davis Reynolds
and Robert Henry Reynolds of Renan, Virginia. She spent
most of her early years in the Gretna area, graduating from Renan High School, and then attended Longwood College, and earned a degree in Medical Technology from the University of Virginia. Jackie moved
to Lynchburg in 1965 and just celebrated her 80th
birthday, retiring only two years ago from a long and fulfilling career as a
Medical Technologist at Lynchburg General Hospital. She also worked at Randolph Macon Women's College
and for Drs. Torbert and Massie. Jackie
enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines and Ageless Wonders, having fun with
the Red Hat Society and traveling and spending time with her family and many
friends. Jackie is survived by one sister, Sarah Frances Simpson of Altavista,
now residing in Winston-Salem, and one brother, John Davis Reynolds of Erie,
Pennsylvania. Her sister, Anne Brumfield Cothran is deceased and dearly missed.
Jackie has three children; John Robert
Power of Charlottesville, Randall Todd Power and wife, Sharon Thomas Power of
Madison Heights, and Ginger Marie Power and husband, John Augustine Jones, of
Virginia Beach. Jackie has three loving grandchildren, Todd, Andrew and Emily
Power of Madison Heights and two step grandchildren, Kelly and Katie Jones of Virginia Beach. The
celebration of Jackie's life will begin at 4pm, Wednesday with receiving friends one hour
prior, at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel immediately followed by a reception at Acorn
Hill Lodge at 2134
Old Forest Road. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Lewy
Body Dementia Association is encouraged in memory and in honor of Jackie at
