Obituary of John Sparrow

John Patrick Sparrow, 72 of Lynchburg, died after a lengthy illness on Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth Lovell Sparrow. Born November 18, 1934 in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late Richard and Ann Marie Gorman Sparrow. John was a retired paving contractor. He loved to work and oversaw several jobs after his retirement. Besides his family, and work, his other delights were bible reading and history. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son Alfred B. Sparrow. In addition to his wife , he is survived by six children, John P. Sparrow, Jr. and wife Irene; Michael E. Sparrow and wife Betty, Edward W. Sparrow and wife Pat, Joshua P. Sparrow, Jennifer L. Morrison and husband Nelson, and Daniel J. Sparrow. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Ann Barley and husband Todd, and Debra Lugar as well as 16 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 24 at 10:00 am in St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend James E. Dorson officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 pm in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation with family and friends will be Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6-9 pm at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel and other times at the residence.
