Obituary of Janet Marie Smith

Janet Marie Spangler Smith, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harry Byrd Smith. 

Born May 4, 1934, in Paces, VA, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Cecil and Bessie Bailey Spangler. Janet was a homemaker and a long-time  active member of Beulah Baptist Church. She was a big supporter of her husband's activities at New London Airport where he was a private pilot. 

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Scott Smith ; two granddaughters, Grace Smith Shelton (Jonathan) and Molly F. Smith, and their mother Susan H. Smith all of Danville. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. 

A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Beulah Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Hollandsworth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
