Obituary of Fred Allen McAlister

Fred A. McAlister (known proudly as Papa) passed away at his home on December 27, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mabel McAlister and Carl (Mickey) McAlister. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 38 years Linda (Lucy) McAlister, son Christopher McAlister & wife Amanda; grandsons, Mitchell, Maddox & Miles McAlister; brother, Carl (Ricky) McAlister and his wife Ginger; nieces and nephews, Bryan McAlister and wife Christina, Kelli Arrington & husband David and Mindy Brown & husband Preston.

Fred was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Fred worked hard for many years at BWXT. He was always a good provider for his family, but what brought him the most joy was spending time with his family. He was a great son and son-in-law. A dedicated father who never missed games or events and took the time to be a real daddy. He was an amazing and wonderful husband. And as his lil Mitchell who he nicknamed “Mitchmac” who is closest to his heart says, “He is the very best Papa in the whole wide world”. Papa so enjoyed taking trips with the family & just playing in the yard with the kids and doing life with them everyday. He & Mitchmac shared their love for trains & train trips.

We have many happy memories with him but we will sure miss him so very much everyday.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel, 21914 Timberlake Rd. Lynchburg, VA, 24502.  Pastor Shawn Wells will officiate the service. 

Relatives and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
