Obituary of Martha "Sue" Persinger Nowlin

Martha Sue Persinger Nowlin, age 97, passed away on December 6, 2023, in Lynchburg, Virginia.

She is survived by her two daughters: Patricia Wood Nowlin of Forest; Martha Whitaker Nowlin of Tennessee; her son-in-law, James Aaron Smith, Jr.; her grandsons; James Aaron Smith, III and Joseph Alexander Smith; her great grandson, Dylan James Smith; four nieces, five nephews, and her two sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Persinger Nowlin, and her brothers, Joseph Samuel Persinger and John Marshall Persinger.

Sue was born January 7,1926 in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee to Rachael Tillman Whitaker Persinger and Joseph Hull Persinger. She graduated from Mary Baldwin College in 1948. She volunteered and was employed at Paul Munro Elementary School for over 20 years.

She was a patient, kind, loving mother who enjoyed reading books and spoiling her dogs.

A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, January 5, 2024, 1:00 P.M.at Fort Hill Memorial Park.  The family would like to thank The Elms for their loving care.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lynchburg Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
