Obituary of James Oliver Gunter Jr.

James Oliver Gunter, Jr, 78, of Evington, VA, passed away Wednesday, Mach 8, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Patricia Cheatham Gunter. 

Born September 5, 1944, in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late James Oliver Gunter, Sr. and Marie Lacy Gunter. He graduated from New London Academy and attended Ferrum College and Virginia Tech. He retired from “Woodside Farm” the family dairy farm in Evington. 

In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by two daughters, Martha Gunter of Lynchburg, and Laura G. Coleman and husband, James of Durant, OK; two sisters, Evangeline Pirkey of Medford, OH and Nancy Robertson of Bedford, VA; two grandchildren, Trevon, and Braylynn Coleman of Durant, OK. 

The family will receive friends Friday, March 10, 2023, from 6-8 P.M. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Virginia Memorial Park.
