Obituary of Barbara Jean Turner Newcomb

Barbara Jean Turner Newcomb, 91, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at her home. She was the wife of the late James Oliver Newcomb Jr.

Born on November 3, 1931, in Covington, V., she was a daughter of the late Tyler and Ruth Turner. She was an active member of Timberlake United Methodist Church and was a retired cosmetologist. She loved to paint and volunteer her time at her church. Barbara loved spending time with her family at Smith Mountain Lake.

She is survived by three children, Dana , Mark and Scott Newcomb; ten grandchildren, Meredith Hall, Chelsea Ward, Monica Lohman (Hollie), Troy Newcomb (Kelsey), Brandon Newcomb, Lauren Newcomb, Megan Newcomb, Ryan Newcomb, Jason Beer, ns Janeen Beer; and eight great-grandchildren, Alana Butler, Lucas Hall, Hunter Wood, Asher Newcomb, Grayson Newcomb, McKenzie Newcomb, Lacy Newcomb and Jayden Bryant. She was preceded in death by one son, Derek Newcomb and an infant daughter, Toni Lee Newcomb.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 10 until 11 a.m. at Timberlake United Methodist Church followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. in the Pribble –Dunn Family Cemetery on Sunburst Rd. A light reception will be held at the church immediately after the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3831 Old Forest Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
