Obituary of Charles Robert Cobb

 

Charles Robert “Charlie” Cobb, 75, died August 15, 2022. He is the husband of Mary Glenn McCausland Cobb. Charlie and Mary Glenn shared an immeasurable love and mutual respect for 38 wonderful years.

    Born November 2, 1946, in Lynchburg VA, he is a son of the late Virginia Cox Cobb and Linwood M. Cobb, Jr. and grandson of the late John B. and Virginia Cox.

Charlie attended EC Glass High School 1961-1965 where he played on JV and Varsity basketball teams. He was graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1969 where he continued his basketball career, helping H-SC in winning the Virginia Small College Championship in 1967.

    He began his career in financial services at Fidelity Bank in the Trust Department. He later moved to United Virginia Bank in the same capacity. After completing his MBA from the University of Lynchburg in 1982, he began his own financial services company, CRC Financial Services which operated from 1986 to 2022.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg and served in leadership roles in many professional organizations and was active in local civic organizations.

   He is survived by his wife, Mary Glenn M. Cobb, his beloved children, Charles P. Cobb of Louisville, KY, Sarah Cobb Mendel (Warren) of Monroe, GA, and George B. Cobb (Jen) of Charleston, SC, brothers, Linwood M Cobb III (Jennifer) of Richmond, John B. Cobb (Vicki), sisters, Winston Cobb Green (Roger) and Gina Cobb Gay (Kell), all of Lynchburg. He is survived by his six grandchildren whom he adored: Alicia, Allison, Rachel, Giles, Charlie, and Evelyn and his many cherished nieces and nephews. Also remembering Charlie are his wife’s siblings, Carroll M. Amos, Susan L. McCausland and James E.“ Jimmy” McCausland and his devoted friend and partner in business, Jesse R. Ford.

    A private graveside funeral service will be conducted in Spring Hill Cemetery by The Reverend Chad McCain. A memorial celebration is being planned for a later date in the chapel at Hampden-Sydney College.
