Obituary of Frances Sayre
Frances Leonard Sayre, 92, of Lynchburg, Va., died on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Born in Bridgewater, Virginia, on March 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Fay Cline Leonard and late Floyd Lee Leonard and wife of the late Ward McCowan Sayre.
Frances was a graduate of Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She received her Registered Nurse license in 1948, and went on to care for others through her nursing career, which lasted more than forty years. She retired from Hopkins Pediatrics. She was a faithful member of Timberlake United Methodist Church for over sixty years.
Frances was an adventurous and sports-minded person. During her time at Bridgewater High School, Frances played basketball for four years. She was also an avid University of Virginia basketball fan. Throughout the years, she enjoyed going on cruises with her husband, going to Topsail Beach, North Carolina, with her family, playing Skip-Bo with her grandchildren, reading, crafting, and caring for others. In her later years, she enjoyed the simplicity of sunshine, phone conversations, spending time with family, sharing cuddles with her cat, Sweetpea, and eating out with loved ones.
In addition to her husband and parents, Frances was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cress Sayre.
She is survived by her son, Randall Lee Sayre and daughters, Brenda Fay Sayre, and Linda Sue Sayre, all of Lynchburg, Virginia; her brother, Charles Lee Leonard and his wife, Beverly Persing Leonard, of Waynesboro, Virginia; four grandchildren, Matthew Christopher Sayre and his wife, Phi, of Seattle, Washington, Jason Andrew Sayre of Denver, Colorado, Adam Michael Sayre and his wife, Susan, and their child, Lane Lee Sayre, of Syracuse, New York, and Melanie Caryn Sayre of Richmond, Virginia.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Fort Hill Memorial Park followed with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Timberlake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matt Laskey officiating. A reception and visitation will be held at the church immediately after the service.
