Obituary of Leonie Cocke
Leonie Doss Cocke, 93, of Lynchburg
passed away August 31, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Brice Tensley Cocke, Sr.
and her parents, Robert Lester Doss and mother Maude Hardy Doss of Pittsylvania
County.
She is survived by her sons John William Cocke and wife Joan
Taylor Cocke of Lynchburg and Brice Tensley Cocke, Jr.and his wife Cathy Cocke
of Daphne, Alabama. Her grandchildren include Lisa Cocke Bradley and husband
Scott Bradley of Louisburg, NC,
J. Andrew Cocke and wife Laura Cocke of Arlington, Carys Cocke of Huntsville,
Alabama and Ashley Cocke of Talladega, Alabama and great grandchildren Tanner
S. Bradley and Cameron T. Bradley of Louisburg.
Mrs. Cocke was valedictorian of her Gretna High School
Class. She was a member of Fort Hill
United Methodist
Church for more than 50 years where
she had served as treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She was a retired
employee of Craddock Terry Shoe Corporation and a member of the Quarter Century
Club. She was also a member of Lynchburg Chapter #54 of The Order of the
Eastern Star and The Scottish Rite Woman's Club. Mrs. Cocke was co-author of
two volumes of genealogy entitled Cockes and Cousins: The Descendants of
Richard Cocke published in 1967 and 1974.
A funeral service will be held Thursday 11:00 am in Fort
Hill United Methodist
Church with the Rev. David Rash,
the Rev. Janet Hawkins and the Rev. George Hatmaker. Interment will follow in Fort
Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the church.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Ana
and George Hatmaker for their loving care while Leonie was in assisted living.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Fort
Hill United Methodist
Church.
Diuguid Waterlick Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
