Obituary of Austin Wheeling
Austin Wayne
Wheeling, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 in
Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness.He was the husband of Thelma
Hall Wheeling, having shared 62 years of marriage.
Born December
7, 1923 in Dublin, Virginia , he was a son of the late William Thomas
and Alberta Turner Wheeling. Wayne was retired from G.E. after many years of
service. He was a dedicated member of Beulah Baptist Church having served in many capacities such as
Deacon, usher, and a member of the
property committee, the Adult Senior Choir and Men's Sunday School Class. He
proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WW-II .
Wayne is survived by
his wife, Thelma; one daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Teachey and her husband Robert,
of Hampton, VA; ,three grandchildren, Tim Wood Jr. and his wife Christina,
Robert W. Teachey II and Lindsay Austin Teachey; one great-grandchild, Andrew
Joseph Wood. one brother, James Edward Wheeling and his wife Linda, of Roanoke,
VA ; three sisters, Sarah McCoy of King, NC, Barbara Stoots and her husband
Alton of Lynchburg and Alma Cochran of Kernersville, NC.and numerous nieces and
nephews. He is also survived by several
very special friends, Rev. Grover Putnam, Brian Seay , Marvin and Annie Clark.
Wayne was preceded in
death by one son, Gary Wayne Wheeling.
A celebration of Wayne's life will be held Monday, September
22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Maurice McCarthy, Rev.
Grover Putnam and Rev. Dwight Weaver officiating. The family will receive
friends Sunday from 2-4 P.M. at
Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
