Obituary of Terrell John Reid
Terrell "Terry"
John Reid, 61 of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008, while duck
hunting with his friends , Jim Whorley , Dr. Michael Parker and Hal Tester.
He was the husband of Betty Jean Montgomery Reid.
Born July 4,
1947 in Lynchburg, he was a
son of Annie Williams Reid of Lynchburg and the late
George James Reid. Terry was retired from the
City of Lynchburg Public Works Department as Utilities Administrator, after 31 years of service. He was most
recently employed with Wiley and Wilson
working with local government clients with water and waste water solutions.
Terry was a member of Euclid Christian Church,
Boonsboro Country Club and President of the
Boonsboro/Peakland Neighborhood Association. He was a graduate of E. C.
Glass High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
degree from Va. Tech.
His contributions and leadership in professional
organizations throughout the state were many. He was a founding member,
director and past president of the
Virginia Association of Municipal Waste Water Agencies, member of
the Virginia Water Resources Research Center at Virginia Tech and past
advisory board chairman appointed by three governors, President of the James River Basin
Association, member of the Technical
Advisory Committee for the Virginia Water Supply Planning, Technical
Advisory Committee for the Virginia Water Protection Permits, Technical
Advisory Committee for the Chesapeake Bay Tributary Strategy, Past President of
the CSO Partnership (Wet Weather
Partnership), American Public Works Association, American Water Works
Association, Water Environment Federation, Virginia Nutrient Credit Exchange
Association and past member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Terry loved
hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed hunting, duck, quail and dove . He
was also an avid golfer and loved tailgating with his family and friends
at the Virginia Tech games . During his
student days at E.C. Glass High
School, Terry was a standout on both the
baseball and football teams. He taught
his daughter, Nikki, to play baseball and coached her in the little league
teams. Terry spent a lot of time being a "Horse Show Dad", taking Nikki, to
many horse shows around the state. He
and his wife, Betty Jean and Nikki spent many happy vacations at the beach with
their friends, Jim and Peggy Whorley.
In addition to his wife, Betty Jean, he is survived by
his mother, Annie Williams Reid of Lynchburg; one daughter, Elizabeth Nicole
"Nikki" Reid; two brothers, Boyce G. Reid and his wife, Mary Jo, of Midlothian,
VA , Charles J. Reid, and his wife Connie, of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister
Patricia "Patsy" R. White, and her husband, Kendall of Lynchburg and his
sister-in law, Ruth Ann Hall, and her husband, Jim Varley.
A celebration of Terry's life will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11:00 am in Euclid Christian Church with the
Rev. Ed Parrish officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-9 pm at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel (811
Wiggington Road). Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial
Park.
