Obituary of Frankie McIvor
Frankie Brown
McIvor of Forest passed away peacefully Tuesday,
Jan. 6, 2009, at her residence. She was the wife of the late
Malcolm Earl McIvor, Jr., for fifty years.
Born Dec. 26, 1921,
in Forest, she was a daughter of the late Frank Spinner
Brown and Bertha Goff Brown. She joined the Academy Presbyterian Church at New
London as a young girl and remained devoted to the
Presbyterian faith throughout her life. She graduated from New
London Academy in
1939 after having gained a love for sports that would stay with her always; she
played basketball in high school, but later on in life, she cheered
passionately for all her favorite sports
stars, most especially in tennis. Frankie and Mac, who were high school
sweethearts, were married on Oct. 12,
1940. She retired from Leggett's Department Store in 1986. Her
greatest legacy, however, was the unconditional love and support she always
showed her family.
In addition to
her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers,
Warren, Aubrey, and Clinton Brown, and by three sisters, Violet Baber, Lily
Miller, and Christine Brown.
She is survived
by her son, Philip Earl McIvor and his wife Sarah of Forest; her daughter,
Sandra McIvor Thompson and her husband Jack of Lynchburg; her grandson, Russell
Garrett McIvor of Lynchburg; her granddaughter, Elizabeth McIvor Thompson of
Charlottesville; her brother Ray Brown of Forest; her sister Adrienne Ramsey of
Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside
service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.
Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Spring
Hill Cemetery
in Lynchburg by the Rev. Charles
Willoughby. The family will receive friends from 6
to 8:00 p.m. today, Jan. 8, 2009, at Diuguid Waterlick
Chapel on Timberlake Road.
