Obituary of M. Deeds

REV. JOHN MILTON DEEDS, III Rev. John Milton Deeds, III, 61, of Lynchburg entered into the Lord's presence on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Durham, NC on July 19, 1947 he was a son of the late John Milton Deeds, Jr. and Ruth Imogene Whittington Deeds and was the husband of Margaret W. Deeds. John was a Vietnam Veteran having served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Barton College with a degree in Psychology and received his M. Div. from Southeastern Seminary. He served the congregations of several local churches as their Associate Minister. He served as the Chaplain at Avante of Lynchburg for several years. He received his Gerontology Certificate from Lynchburg College and was the Director for the Central Virginia Alzheimer's Association through 2005. Rev. Deeds was also a longtime member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, John is survived by two daughters, Rebekah Deeds King and her husband, David and Angela Deeds; all of Raleigh, NC., a sister, Leigh D. Boyd and her husband, John and a niece, Sarah Boyd, all of Roanoke. A celebration of John's Life and Faith will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Wilder officiating. Interment will take place 2:00 PM Sunday at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, NC. The family express deep appreciation to the staff of Lynchburg Hem/Onc office and especially Dr. Oldham for their excellent care. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 PM at Diuguid Funeral Service and Crematory, Wiggington Rd. Chapel. The family suggests that memorials be made to Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church Elevator Fund, 1301 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, Va. 24504 or to a charity of your choice.
