Obituary of Charlie Thornhill
Charlie Alfred Thornhill, 89, of Lynchburg passed away
Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Lynchburg
General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Louise
Alcock Thornhill.
Born in Lynchburg, May 31, 1919, he was a
son of the late Robert Daniel and Maude Earl Steuart Thornhill. Mr. Thornhill was former President of
Consumer-Dornin-Adams Company and a charter member, lifetime deacon and a
member of the K.E.Y. Seniors of Keystone Baptist Church and a
former member of College Hill Baptist Church. He served
our country during World War II in the United
States Marine Corps. He was preceded in death
by one brother and one sister.
He is survived by his children; James Robert Thornhill
of Manhattan, Ks., Judith Anne T. Davis and her husband Karsten Lars of New
Castle, Bruce Stephen Thornhill, of Richmond, Mary Ella Thornhill, of Roanoke;
two brothers, J. Edward Thornhill and J. Roger Thornhill, both of Lynchburg;
Brother-in-law Edward Peters, sister-in-law Leta A. Proffitt, Both of
Gladstone; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces
and nephews, and his special homecare companions.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 31`,
2009 at 11 A.M. at Diuguid
Waterlick Chapel with Dr. J. Monty Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial
Park. The family will receive friends Monday
from 7-8:30 PM at the
funeral home.
