Obituary of Russell Dufford

Russell ?Jack? Todd Dufford, Jr., 82, of Lynchburg died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Towson, MD. On October 20, 1926. He was a son of the late Russell T. Dufford, Sr. And Esther Price Dufford. The Dufford family were one the nine original families that came out of the Rhine Valley in Germany to America in the 1730's and settled in what they named ?Germany Valley? in the northwest corner of New Jersey. The name was changed to the Indian name ? Long Valley? during WW I . Long Valley became a very historical area during the Revolutionary War. Mr. Dufford graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1943 and Lynchburg College in 1949. He receive his Masters Degree from the University of Virginia in 1959. During the years from 1949 to 1993 he taught school and retired from Rustburg High School in the Campbell County School District as a Teacher, Coach and Athletic Director. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church, Hill City Lodge #183 AF&AM and was the historian for the Dufford-Swackhamer Society in Long Valley, NJ. He served his country in the U. S. Naval Reserves. Jack is survived by his loving and caring family, friends and associates. A Celebration of Jack?s Life and Faith will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 1, 2009 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel on Timberlake Rd with the Rev. Leslie Whealton officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 30, 2009 from 7 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
