Obituary of Robert Franklin

Robert Morris ?Buddy? Franklin Robert Morris ?Buddy? Franklin, 65, of Smith Mountain Lake passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Born May 24, 1944 in Louisville, KY he was the son of Edith Estes Franklin of Palm Coast, FL and the late Robert Scott Franklin. Buddy was educated and spent most of his life in Lynchburg. He proudly served his country in the US Army as a machine gunner in Vietnam. After military service Buddy followed in his fathers footsteps as a safety shoe representative retiring from Iron Age Safety Shoe Incorporated. Buddy was a member of AF and AM Eubank Masonic Lodge # 262 and was a member of Lynchburg Shrine Club. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles and all the friends he met at the motorcycle events and rides. Buddy was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all along his walk in life. He will be dearly missed by all especially his brown lab Fancy. In addition to his mother he is survived by his two children, Freddie Lee Millner, Jr. and wife Marie of Forest, Shannon E. Fitzgerald and fiancé Frederick Villarial of Monroe; two sisters, Barbara F. Thompson and husband Jack and Bobbi C. Smith and husband William all of Palm Coast, FL and grandchildren, Megan Michael and Daniel Fitzgerald. A funeral service will be held Monday, 11:00 am at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Thomas Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Masonic Rites and Military Honors by American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5:00 pm. Those wishing to make memorial contributions please consider the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
