Obituary of John Turman

John Ray Turman, 87, of Madison Heights, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Ann Oliver Moss Turman. Born June 8, 1922 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late John William and Clyde Elizabeth Turman. He was a retired Foreman from Norfolk-Southern Railroad and a member of Elon Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Amherst-Clinton Masonic Lodge for 42 years, the Valley of Lynchburg Scottish-Rite, and the Loyal Order of the Moose # 1727 in Lynchburg. He was aslo a 32nd degree Kazim Shriner. John proudly served our country in the United States Army during WW-II. John is survived by his wife Mary Ann Oliver Moss Turman, one son John Turman, Jr of Madison Heights; six step-children, Patricia Rosser (Reid), Phillip Cash (Carolyn), Dennis Cash (Audrey), Faye Kozlowski, (Tom) and Rhonda Bedrickson (Brian); numerous nieces , nephews , step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first and second wife, Alice Moss Turman and Joyce Murphy Cash Turman; one sister, Pauline Turman and one brother, Carlyle Jackson Turman. The family wishes to thank all of John?s doctors, nurses and health care facilities for their love and wonderful care. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel with the Rev. Steve Tyree officiating. The family will receive friends this evening from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
