Obituary of Mary Cunningham

Mary Agnes Sasser Cunningham, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, October 12,2011 at Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of Newton H. Cunningham. Born March 27, 1926 in Wayne County, NC, she was a daughter of the late LaFayette and Sally Pearl Collins Sasser. She attended Morgantown School for the Deaf and Blind. She was a retired seamstress from Duti-Duds Manufacturing and a member of Living Word Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Newton, she is survived by one son, Barry Neil Cunningham and his wife, June, of Lynchburg; one daughter, Judy C. Cowart and her husband, Jesse, of Gladys, VA; four grandchildren, Brian Cunningham (Monica),Bo Cunningham (Missy), Gwen Mosebrook (Bruce) and Allen Cowart (Clark); three great-grandchildren, Colton Wayne Thompson, Jeremy Cunningham and Stephen Mosebrook ; a fourth great-grandchild due in January; two sisters, Faye Davis and Rachael Kelly and her very special friend and companion, her dog, ?Josh?. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Eris Sasser, George Sasser, Leon Sasser, Alfred Sasser, Joyce Duke and Ralph Sasser. The family wishes to thank Crystal Martin and Gwen Mosebrook for their special and loving care given to Mrs. Cunningham during her illness. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM in Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. John Wyble officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel from 7-9 PM. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722, is serving the family.
