Obituary of Cecil Collins

Cecil Leon Collins, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2012 at his home after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Collins. Born September 23, 1922 in Schoolfield, Virginia, he was the son of the late Judson and Mattie Collins. He was retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Company and a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II with the rank of Gunnery Mate 1st Class. He is survived by his daughter, Jane C. Dunkley and her husband, Danny, of Lynchburg; two sons, Jerry Collins and his wife, Mary, of Richmond and Mark Collins of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Jeremy Collins , Jody Collin and his wife Dao, of Wardensville, WV.; two great grandchildren, Jacob Collins and Kenlee Collins. He was preceded by a granddaughter, Angie Dunkley A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Tom Chalfant officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post-16. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel (434-237-2722) is serving the family.
