Obituary of Marion Page Vest

Marion Page Vest, 98, of Forest, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her husband, Rev. William T. Vest, Sr., of Westminster-Canterbury, survives her. They were one month shy of their 79th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Vest was born March 28, 1919, in Appomattox, VA, daughter of the late Eva Mary Bryant Page and James Henry Page. She is survived by three daughters, Pasty V. Gallagher of Salem, Barbara V. Schrader and her husband Daniel of Goode, Naomi V. Tuttle of Stanardsville, and one son, The Honorable William Thomas Vest and his wife Gaynelle of Virginia Beach, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her ten siblings, as well as a daughter, Janice Vest Carter, and two sons-in-law, Rawlings Gallagher and John W. Tuttle. She was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. Marion was a teacher, having taught first grade in various states and in Iceland. She received her undergraduate degree from Lynchburg College in 1959 and her Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia in 1965. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and a member of Kappa Delta Pi. She also served with the Literacy Council of Lynchburg. As a Navy wife, she traveled with her husband as much as was allowed. Their European duty stations were in Iceland and Italy. During these tours, Mrs. Vest had wonderful experiences traveling with other wives to various places such as Germany, Russia, Israel, Yugoslavia, and to many cities in Italy. Stateside, they lived in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Beaufort, South Carolina, Rising Sun, Maryland, Castro Valley, California, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Charleston, South Carolina. William retired in 1979 and they settled in Lynchburg again. A few years later, Pine Hill Farm in Forest became home for the family. Memorial donations can be made to Lynchburg College, Annual Fund for Student Support, 1501 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 11:00 am at Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory, Wiggington Rd. Chapel (434) 385-8900. Relatives and friends are welcome for visitation on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park following the funeral service. The family wishes to convey their appreciation to the staff of Westminster Canterbury for the loving care rendered to our mother during her life at Westminster Canterbury.
