Obituary of Alvin Benjamin Bowles

Alvin Benjamin "Andy" Bowles, Jr., 69, of Lynchburg, died peacefully on January 11, 2018. Born June 15, 1948 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Alvin Benjamin Bowles and Aline Cleveland Lucy Bowles. He is survived by his sister, Aline Cleveland Bowles and her husband, William H. Jenkins, of Lynchburg; his brother, William Latham Bowles and his wife, Tanis, of Jupiter, FL; two nephews, Randall Latham Bowles and his wife, Lauren, and their daughter, Scarlett, William Andrew Bowles and his wife, Grace; one niece, Alexandra Elizabeth Bowles and two cousins, Carolyn King and Elizabeth Bowles Robertson. He enjoyed a life on Norfolk Avenue, attended Villa Maria, Garland-Rodes School and graduated from E.C. Glass High School and he attended Southwood College in Salemburg, North Carolina. He was a well-known and respected lover of nature, art and music. He attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church as a child, later the family became members of St. John's Church, where he served many years as an acolyte. A graveside service will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery on Tuesday January 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM and a celebration of Andy's life will follow at St. John's Episcopal Church at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. A reception for guests will be held after the memorial service at Boonsboro Country Club.
