Obituary of Ruth Sheffield

Ruth Sullivan Sheffield, 85, of Lynchburg, Va. residing at Westminster Canterbury, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Born in Glen Alum, WV, on July 20, 1922 she was a daughter of the late Navillus E. Sullivan and Bertha Elmore Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Rudolph Kelly Sheffield. She was also preceded her in death by four brothers, Cecil, Howard, Roger and Edward Sullivan and one sister, Hazel Sullivan Jones. She is survived by her elder daughter, Debra McBeth and her husband, Ray of Yadkinville, NC. She is also survived by her younger daughter Kelly Deffner and her husband, Joseph and her much beloved grandsons, Joseph Rudolph Deffner and Andrew Sullivan Deffner all of Forest, Va. Ruth is also survived by four nieces and three nephews from the Sheffield Family and three nieces and one nephew from the Sullivan Family. Ruth was a long time member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and then moved her membership to Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church, both in Lynchburg. A Celebration of her Life and Faith will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church, 1301 Rivermont Ave. with the Rev. David Breckenridge and the Rev. Jeff Wilder officiating. Ruth's daughters would like to thank the staff at Wesminister Canterbury, especially Drinkard 6th floor, for their excellent and compassionate care of their mother during her time there. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made, in memory of Ruth, to Generation Solutions (1032 Claymont Dr., Lynchburg, Va. 24502) in support of the Ruth Sullivan Sheffield Memorial Educational Fund.
