Obituary of Vernita Caruso

Vernita Green Caruso, 83, of Lynchburg died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 in Fairmont Crossing in Amherst. She was the wife of the late John A. Caruso who died in 1987. Born January 31, 1924 in Nix, Arkansas, she was a daughter of the late Julius Carl and Erma Beatrice Adams Green. Vernita was a longtime member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church where she taught the Joy Sunday School Class for 20 years. While her daughters were growing up, she was a Teen Sunday School Class teacher and a Girl Scout Leader. She was an early recipient of a Diuguid Fellowship which enabled her to graduate from Lynchburg College at age 47. Surviving are her four daughters, Karen C. Caruso of Annapolis, Md., Angela C. Smith and husband Radford of Forest, F. Giselle Caruso and partner Heather Dilatush of Alexandria, and Antonia C. Siebert and husband Steve of Arlington; three grandchildren, Lauren S. Shanta of Reston, and Sam and Tom Siebert both of Arlington; and three sisters, Vivienne G. Purifoy, Carline G. Easley, and Louise G. Hansard all of Arkansas. A funeral service will be held Friday, 10:00 am at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. James D. Newman officiating. Burial will be Saturday at 2:00 pm in Culpeper National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
