Obituary of Vann Deas

Vann Joshua Deas, Jr., of Goode, Virginia, son of the late Vann J. Deas, Sr., and Bessie Lucille Deas, passed away Sunday, November 18th, at Lynchburg General Hospital as a result of complications following surgery. Born in Canton, Georgia, Mr. Deas' family moved to Rockhill, South Carolina, during his childhood. He was graduated from Clemson University and served in the United States Air Force. Following service, Mr. Deas was employed by General Electric where he fulfilled a variety of positions throughout the United States and Milan, Italy. His career concluded in Lynchburg, and he retired to Bedford County. Mr. Deas was an active member of Brookhill Wesleyan Church, Promise Keepers and the Gideons. Within Walk to Emmaus, he served as a sponsor. In addition, Mr. Deas was appointed by Governor George Allen to the Board of Explore Park, and he served on Liberty University's Board of Regents. Mr. Deas is survived by his bride Mabel "Sunny" Deas, his beloved daughter Christie Deas Evans and his adored granddaughter Chloe Evans. Other family members include his sister Martha Hamlin of Hickory, North Carolina, and brothers John Deas of Dallas, Texas, and Earl Deas of Rock Hill, South Carolina. The family will receive visitors from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20th at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel, 21914 Timberlake Road. The funeral service will be held at Brookhill Wesleyan Church, 1043 Cifax Road, Forest, at noon on Wednesday, November 21st.
