Obituary of Gloria Safritt

Gloria Christine Simmons Safritt, age 79, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007 after an extended illness. Born in Buckingham County, VA on December 26, 1927 to the late Thomas A. Simmons and Mattie Ayers Simmons, she was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. Gloria believed in serving her Lord through missions. She was a founding member and former treasurer of Churches for Urban Ministry, actively involved with United Methodist Women and Meals on Wheels. Gloria is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Safritt Martinez of Triangle, a son, Stephen M. Safritt and his wife, Deneen of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Keith M. Martinez, Kristin Martinez Love and her husband, Christopher, Courtney D. Safritt and Mariah K. Safritt; three great-grandchildren, Wayne E. Love, Sydney A. Love and Kaley M. Love; two sisters, V. Louise Simmons Adams of Lynchburg and Frances E. Simmons Faught of Fredericksburg. Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul M. Safritt and three brothers, Charles A. Simmons, Robert I. Simmons and William G. Simmons, Rev. Dr. Riley Smith and Rev. David Nickels will hold a graveside service Saturday, Nov. 24 at 11:00 AM in Fort Hill Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life service will follow at Heritage United Methodist Church at noon. Family visitation will be Friday, Nov. 23 at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel from 7 to 8:30 PM.
