Obituary of Frances Lowry Clifton

Frances Louise Lowry Clifton, 91, of Lynchburg died Saturday, December 7, 2007 in Lynchburg General Hospital. Frances was born in Roanoke, Va. March 19, 1916. She was the widow of the recently departed Emory Ewell Clifton. Emory and Frances kept a loving home for 72 years together before his death. They lived in Roanoke and Front Royal for most of their lives and in recent years moved to Lynchburg near a daughter. Frances is survived by their four daughters, Nancy C. Harrison and husband Robert of Albuquerque, N.M., Betty Clifton of Lynchburg, Gail C. Pomeroy and husband Charles Wilson of Front Royal and Patricia Ann Clifton of Palmyra. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was born the daughter of the Lucy Mabel Trent and James W. Lowry. Of her 11 siblings, Lucy Maurer of Roanoke survives her. She was a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Roanoke. Frances was an award winning seamstress and a licensed beautician and made all her four daughters clothes and cut and styled their hair until they were adults. She loved flowers as evidenced by her beautiful lawn and gardens and grew and canned vegetables with her husband all her life. She is also survived by a beloved cat, Dini. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, December 10, 2007 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Rd., NW Roanoke with services led by Elder Thomas Mann of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 pm at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.
