Obituary of Catherine Paul Zarres

Catherine "Rena"Paul Zarres, 78, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 in Lynchburg Genral Hospital. Miss Zarres was born July 25, 1929 in Lynchburg and was a daughter of the late Paul and Mary Nomikos Zarres. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. In 1954, Rena relocated to Jacksonville, NC, where she had a long career at the Jacksonville Daily News. She returned to Lynchburg in 1974 following her retirement. Survivors include two sisters, Sophie Zarres Caldwell and her husband Ray of Pasadena, MD, Amelia Zarres White and her husband Glenwood of Lynchburg; a brother, Jimmy Paul Zarres and his wife Ann also of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law, Marea Sanos Ewers of Winston-Salem, NC; a goddaughter, Rena Caldwell Buckreis and her husband Bob of of Pasadena , MD; 16 nieces and nephews, 21 great-nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Louis "Lee" Sanos of Winston-Salem, NC and a sister, Ethel Zarres Melts and her husband, Victor, of Jacksonville, NC. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel with the Rev. Fr. George Kiricoples officiating. A Trisagion memorial prayer service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home with family visitation from 6-8 P.M. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
